Augusta CC Wins Second Straight Senior Club Team Championship

Belgrade Lakes, ME — The MSGA has only been running the Senior Club Team Championship for four years, which makes it all the more impressive that the team from Augusta CC won its third title at Belgrade Lakes GC today. Playing in the second group out, the team of Tom Bean, Mike Nowak, Mark Plummer and Jim Quinn posted a score of 131 (-11) in the best two-of-four ball format. This is the second year in a row this team has won, successfully defending their title from last year’s event at Boothbay Harbor CC.

It was a real team effort to earn the win, as all four players made at least two birdies, with Quinn leading the way with four of his own. Even more impressive considering the difficult team format was that the team did not drop a single shot with a team bogey for the whole round.

Finishing in second was a tie between the teams from Falmouth CC (Glenn Amico, Tom Ellsworth, Gary Manoogian, Cash Wiseman) with a score of 135 (-7), and York G&TC (Craig Briggs, Keith Erikson, Brent Merritt, Brent Mohr).

Leading the way on the net side was the team from Brunswick GC at 123 (-19). The team consisted of Chris Baldwin, Jack Harkins, Jeff Hersom and Doug Self.

The MSGA would like to thank the staff and crew at Belgrade Lakes for the wonderful hospitality and course conditions that players were treated to not just today, but also at yesterday's Club Team Championship. With the first two championships now in the books, we now look forward to the next one at Natanis GC on June 4 for the Parent/Child Championship.
